The Thing About Diane

May 30, 2012

The thing about Diane is not that she’s fun and whimsical and folksy and open and – at times – outlandish, though all of those things could be said about her. The thing about Diane is not that she has a great analytical mind and years of business experience and a good grasp on figuring out what needs to be done and a talent for communicating that to all sorts of different people in and out of management, though those things alone would make her a good co-worker. The thing about Diane is not that she’s a great listener and trustworthy confident, nor that she gives slamming advice on dealing with teammates and bosses and clients and all manner of difficult folk. Those things are true, too, but that’s not the heart of the matter.

The thing about Diane is that she never, ever lets her ego get involved when she makes a decision.

I’ve spent the last five years trying to sweat out, twist out, wring out, fold over, backbend through, and balance on top of my ego. Thanks to Diane, I know why I need to continue.
